Applications for the ICGEB Arturo Falaschi Short-term Postdoctoral Fellowships in Austria for the 2023/24 academic session.
The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology ICGEB is an Intergovernmental Organization and its operations are aligned to those of the United Nations Common System. It operates as a Centre of Excellence for Research, Training and Technology Transfer to industry to promote sustainable global development.
The ICGEB is unique in pursuing these goals through an approach that also involves advanced experimental research in its own laboratories. These laboratories are located in Trieste, Italy, New Delhi, India and Cape Town, South Africa. It provides a scientific environment of top international standards for advanced research and education and for the development of biotechnology products for over 60 Member States.
ICGEB partners with other Multilateral Organizations, disseminates information related to biosafety, bioethics and other issues across the globe. It also champions outreach and public engagement to promote scientific information and improve the quality of life.
Worth of Award
The fellowship runs for 1- 6 months and provides
- Monthly stipend: Trieste (Italy): Euro 2,000, New Delhi (India): US$ 1,590, Cape Town (South Africa): ZAR 23,000.
- travel expenses from the participant’s home country to the ICGEB lab at the beginning of the fellowship and a return travel provision upon completion of the fellowship.
- Medical health insurance coverage is provided for the duration of the fellowship.
- Reimbursement of visa/permit of stay application and renewal costs.
- ICGEB makes no financial provision, nor can it provide administrative support for family members of participants in the programme.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State and may not apply for fellowships to be undertaken in their country of origin. This is unless they have been working abroad for at least, the last 3 years at the time of application.
- Degree requirements: applicants should hold a recent PhD in Life Sciences or have at least 3 years research experience.
- Preference is given to candidates below the age of 35.

(iii) A valid identification document (passport or identity card). Recommended passport validity should be 12 months at least.
(iv) English Certificate (TOEFL, Cambridge or similar). This document is not requested when scholastic education has been undertaken in English.
