Next-Gen Campus Reporter Awards for Nigerian Undergraduate Student Reporters 2022

The Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) is delighted to invite campus journalists to apply for its Next-Gen Campus Reporter Awards for Nigerian Undergraduate Student Reporters in 2022.

Campus Reporter is a platform created by CJID in collaboration with Ford Foundation. It is part of CJID’s program to support “Evidence-based Multimedia and Investigative Journalism in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions”.

This program consists of participants who are students (campus reporters) who report under the guidance of mentors within and without their campus environment.

Categories for this award include:

1. Best Investigative Reporting
2. Best Gender Story
3. Health Reporter of the year
4. Best Environment/Climate Change Story
5. Best Conflict Reporting
6. Best Fact Check
7. Best Budgetary Tracking Procurement Story
8. Best Election Observation Report
9. Sports Writer of the year
10. Campus Journalist of the Year

Worth of Award

The awards will promote the works of undergraduate student reporters who have excellently carried out news coverage of topical issues on and off campus in various Nigerian Universities.

Eligibility

• The award is open to undergraduate student reporters who have their works published on the Campus Reporter website and other media platforms.
• Candidates cannot submit more than one story in a category, and each candidate is eligible to apply for only two categories.
• Entries for more than two categories will be disqualified. Also, submitting more than one story in a category will lead to disqualification.
• Entries are expected to have been published between January 2021 and August 2022.

Very Important

• Campus Journalist of the Year will be determined by the total points a campus journalist accumulates from nominations in two categories: Best Investigative Reporting and any other developmental category.
• In the case of a tie, the board of judges will have to split the award.

How to Apply

For entries published on electronic media (Television and Radio), applicants should upload the news file in a google drive document and share the link while filling out the entry form appropriately.

Deadline: Entries close on October 20th, 2022.
