The Brookings Institution invites applications for the Echidna Global Economy and Development Scholars Program in the USA for the 2022/23 academic year.
The program seeks to catalyze and amplify the impact of local leaders working to advance gender equality in and through education across the Global South.
During a six-month fellowship, Echidna Global Scholars conduct individual research. This research is focused on improving learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women, and gender non-conforming people. It also develops their leadership and evidence-based policy skills, builds substantive knowledge on gender and global education issues, and expands their pathways for impact.
Worth of Award
- It offers a forum for research, high-level dialogue, and public debate on a range of issues relevant to education, with a particular focus on the Global South.
- Scholars will be supported in the implementation of activities in their local context that build on the findings of their research. They will also join a growing alumni network of global leaders working to change the lives of girls and young women in countries and regions throughout the world.
Eligibility
As an Echidna Global Scholar, you are expected to have:
- Substantial experience in, ties to, and a clear intent to return to a country in the Global South.
- Background in education, development, public policy, economics, or a related area; a Master’s degree (or higher) is required.
- 10+ years of professional experience in research/academia, nongovernmental, community, or civil society organizations, or government.
- An intimate understanding of education development issues and gender.
- Ability to collaborate with others, openness to give and receive feedback, and capacity and desire to learn with speed and flexibility.
- demonstrate proficiency in English.
How to Apply
In addition to a cover letter and CV, all applicants answer a questionnaire and submit a 3-5 page proposal for a uniquely developed research project. This project is designed to increase the evidence base and improve learning opportunities and life outcomes for girls, young women. It will also improve learning opportunities for gender non-conforming people in their countries.
