The University of Edinburgh offers two scholarships for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University to students from Southern African countries.
One of the scholarships will be available for a one year Master’s degree programme and the other scholarship for a three year PhD degree programme.
The scholarship covers the overseas rate of tuition fee and University accommodation for the duration of the postgraduate degree programme.
Eligibility
The scholarship will be awarded to applicants from Southern African countries who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master’s programme of study or PhD degree programme at the University of Edinburgh. Applicants may apply from the following countries:
- Angola
- Botswana
- The Democratic Republic of Congo
- Lesotho
- Malawi
- Mozambique
- Namibia
- South Africa
- Swaziland
- United Republic of Tanzania
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so. Further details on how to make a postgraduate application can be found on the University website.
Criteria
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, the international equivalent of a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level.
Applying
The application deadline for this award has now passed for session 2011-2012. It is an annual scholarship.
Selection Procedure
A Selection Committee meets in early May 2011 to select the scholarship holders and successful candidates will be notified shortly afterwards.
