The University of New South Wales is currently accepting applications for the National Heart Foundation PhD Scholarship at UNSW in Australia for the 2021/2022 academic year.
During the course of this PhD, the successful candidate will undertake a range of computational and experimental testing to develop the next generation of stent designs. These are commonly used small scaffolding mesh wire devices to open blocked arteries and restore circulation. The work promises to improve the lives of more than 2 million stent patients worldwide each year.
The candidate should have a strong fluid mechanics and mechanical engineering background and ideally an understanding of vascular mechanics.

Worth of Award
Successful candidates will receive $43,281 for up to 3.5 years (tax-free).
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the UNSW National Heart Foundation PhD scholarship, it is important to
- Have a Bachelor (Honours) or Masters degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Materials or Manufacturing Engineering; at 1st class or upper second class level, or equivalent.
- Possess excellent team and communication skills.
- Have demonstrated research capability and passion.
Similarly, the candidate must meet the UNSW admission requirements for the Higher Degree Research.
