Since September 2019, Australia has been grappling with bushfires that have rendered at least 25 dead and thousands homeless. The biggest fires burn along stretches of the eastern and southern coast. Currently, Australian bush fire victims are the worst hit.
Professor Dickman, from the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Science, recently revised his estimate of the number of animals killed in the bushfires. The estimate currently stands at a staggering more than one billion animals. With the current level of devastation, what can international students do to help Australian Bush fire Victims?
1. Become a Volunteer Firefighter
While the Australian government has deployed professional firefighters to control the fires, they’ve been outnumbered by volunteers. So, if you desire to help in this direction, you can collaborate with other volunteer firefighters to help bring the situation under control.
2. Make Financial Donations
If you can’t help personally because you don’t study in Australia, your financial contributions can go a long way. You can provide relief and help with the recovery by making financial donations. Such donations can be made to the Australian Red Cross, Salvation Army, St. Vincent de Paul Society, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Foodbank, etc.
3. Volunteer your Services
Another way you can help is by volunteering your services to the Red Cross. You can provide relief to victims such as food items, pieces of clothing, etc. You can also give warm smiles, hugs and words of encouragement to the victims. This will go a long way in making the victims feel loved and not alone through these challenging times.
4. Make other Donations
Yet another opportunity presents itself for you to provide relief by making other donations. For instance, you can donate pieces of clothing, food items, toiletries, shoes, and other relevant items that can help victims. These little acts of kindness provide a safe landing for the victims and give them the strength to start over.
No one desires to be a victim of natural disasters but when the inevitable happens, victims need all the love and help they can get. Providing relief for Australian bush fire victims can be done by making donations and volunteering your services. These little acts of kindness will go a long way to give the victims hope and strength.
