The holidays are right around the corner and they come with many happy vibes for students. As you plan to have a memorable experience, it is of utmost importance that you remain security conscious as well. To help you do this successfully, we’ll be sharing some holiday safety tips for international students.
1. Carry the Proper Identification
Students who would be travelling outside of their study country should find out what identification is required. Those travelling on a cruise ship may only need a valid driver’s license and a birth certificate. Those flying may need a valid passport and/or visa.
2. Don’t Travel Alone
Equally important in the list of holiday safety tips is the need to always travel in pairs or groups as students. This way, criminals will have a harder time robbing or attacking the group. Furthermore, if you intend to hang out at the beach, beware of strangers, obey lifeguards and all posted warnings. Do not swim alone.
3. Protect Your Money
If you prefer to have a lovely time with friends in public places like restaurants, parks, clubs, etc., keep your money safe. It’s also advisable to go with small amounts of money to avoid being the target of criminals. Similarly, be careful when using credit cards especially at automated teller machines; always go with some company.
4. Limit Alcohol Consumption
Alcohol consumption is usually a common tradition among students during the holidays. So, as one of the top holiday safety tips, endeavour to limit your consumption, especially in public places. Whatever you do, don’t go for a swim while under the influence of alcohol and/or other substances.
5. Keep Your Phone Handy
While having the time of your life with friends and loved ones during the holiday, keep your phone handy. Keep it charged and ensure you have service and are familiar with roaming charges (if you’re travelling). Also, keep those close to you informed of your itinerary just in case. These simple tips will enable you to enjoy a fantastic holiday.
