Hojo International Scholarship for Doctoral and Masters Degree in Japan 2022

The Hojo International Scholarship Foundation in Japan is inviting applications for the Hojo International Scholarship for Doctoral and Master’s Degree in 2022.

The Honjo International Scholarship Foundation has been established to provide scholarships to bright students who are struggling to study under different conditions in developing nations as well as to those Japanese students studying abroad, to help them learn advanced technologies and improve their good intentions will serve as a bridge connecting Japan with the rest of the world in culture and mutual friendships.

Japan has successfully risen to great prosperity through technological innovation in the 20th century, including improved production technologies, transportation means, communication, and many more. Thus, Japan today enjoys a solid reputation among the nations of the world, and each year plays an increasing role in the global community.

Worth of Award

The amount of scholarship depends on the differs based on the period as below:

  • ¥200,000 per month for 1 ~ 2 years degree
  • ¥180,000 per month for 3 years degree
  • ¥150,000 per month for 4 ~ 5 years degree


To be eligible, the student must satisfy the requirement below;

  • The student who does not possess Japanese citizenship
  • The student must be enrolled by April 2021 or applying for the session starting from April 2021 at a graduate school in Japan.
  • The student who is going to enter in fall 2021 should apply at the next season that application period is April 1 ~ April 30, 2021 (planned).
  • In principle, the student enrolling in a professional graduate school is not eligible for apply. However, a student who can submit a research plan is eligible to apply.
  • The student applying for PhD Programme must have been born after March
    31, 1984.
  • The student applying for the Master’s Programme must have been born after March 31, 1989.

How to Apply

To apply for the Hojo International Students Scholarship;

  • Enter “web application system” and fill up all the necessary information, and upload the
    required documents as a PDF file.
  • When you complete the entry procedure, the application number is issued.
  • Successful students’ application numbers are announced on their website. So be advised
    to save the number you received, carefully.

Documents required to be uploaded are:

  • Academic transcript (In Japanese or English; please attach a translation in case of
    other languages.)
  • Academic transcript of undergraduate course (Required)
  • If you transferred into the university from the College of Technology (kōsen school
    system), the transcript of it is also required.
  • Academic transcript of graduate school (If you don’t have it yet, it is unnecessary
    to submit.)
