Taking classes continuously without lunch breaks could put a strain on international students pursuing academic excellence. In some climes, lecturers jettison the need for lunch breaks while teaching, while some students go through long periods of study without same. This takes a negative toll on students’ overall health.
The following are reasons why international students need to observe lunch breaks.
It increases Productivity
It is understandable that you have some research to conduct, textbooks to read and assignments to conclude. But, it doesn’t stop you from taking breaks in between these activities, otherwise, you could become less productive. When you take lunch breaks, you return to your tasks refreshed, basking in the euphoria of having new implementable ideas.
Your brain needs Energy
The human brain does not store up energy but it requires energy constantly. It also requires a reasonable amount of glucose to keep it productive. This is as a result of the numerous nerve cells present therein. This energy makes up 20% of your body’s metabolic rate. So, more work entails more mental challenge and the more the mental challenge, the more energy your brain requires. For this reason, ensure you take lunch breaks in order to have more glucose necessary to prevent cognitive impairment. Also, eat nutrient-dense meals rather than junks.
It enhances Bonding
Whenever you go out to have lunch with friends or colleagues, you bond with them. You get to understand them better. Peradventure you go alone, it gives you the opportunity to meet and connect with new people. However, it is important to have lunch with at least, one person. By so doing, you learn something new, establish lasting relationships and see the world differently.
It relieves Stress
As ordinary as taking breaks may seem, it is highly beneficial to international students. This is because it takes away a lot of stress which could cause students to burn out or get them into a foul mood. Being under a lot of stress can also take a toll on your health so take a break from time to time.
