DFID invites grant applications and registrations for the Technology Provider Window for Frontier Technology Livestreaming in 2020.

They are exploring how 3D printing, Internet of Things, drones and other Frontier Technologies can positively impact development challenges like connectivity, health, education, humanitarian response, and production. The funding available will be allocated primarily in response to opportunities and gaps identified through call procedures internal to DFID. However, they are inviting technology experts to register as potential collaborators and suppliers to the programme as well as to propose pilot ideas which could be picked up by DFID staff.

Worth of Award

By registering for their database, you:

  • will ensure that your skills and technology offer is known to the Frontier Technology Hub, which will then explore if these match demand in the Frontier Technologies programme, or are potentially relevant to other opportunities for DFID support
  • can propose ideas for projects that will be made available for DFID staff. If picked up, selected pilots could be eligible for funding to test new solutions
  • will be part of a database of suppliers to scope, design, and implement approved projects. Once projects are approved, they will organise tenders for relevant suppliers. We let all relevant companies registered on the database know about relevant opportunities
  • may be invited to participate in other events related to the programme. For example, their programme has previously used the database to identify technology providers to participate in a “Frontier Tech Futures” mission to Bangladesh. They have also invited those from our database to participate in marketplace displays at launch events at DFID Whitehall and DFID East Kilbride

Eligibility

  • They welcome registrations from any frontier technology provider with an application in international development.
  • Although they are open to collaborate with providers at a range of innovation stages, the focus of the programme is on field testing, evidence and experience generation – therefore they particularly welcome technology providers with technologies that are ready for field testing.
  • They also encourage registrations from companies that work collaboratively and emphasise learning and sharing their experiences.

All types of innovation are welcome, however there is particular interest in:

  • Additive Manufacturing (3D printing)
  • Alternative Internet Delivery
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Big Data
  • Blockchain
  • Circular Economy
  • Collaborative Economy
  • Financial Technology

How to Apply

  • Upon registering, they will send you an email confirming receipt of your information. They will then confirm within a month if you have been added to their database after some initial checks. After that, they’ll be in touch if specific projects relevant to you come up.
  • They frequently source both technology providers and Independent Technical Experts (ITEs) for our pilots through this database.
  • If you have proposed a project, this will be considered for potential inclusion as an “offer” in the Frontier Technology Livestreaming programme and matching with other DFID programmes or funds.
  • However, please note that this does not form part of any official tender, and DFID is not under any obligation to respond to ideas submitted.
  • Ideas submitted will be made available to interested DFID staff, who may or may not choose to contact you to discuss further.
