The 2013 edition of the Annual Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition for students in Nigerian secondary schools is now open for entries. This year, being the 10th edition comes with juicy prizes for winners.
Mike Okonkwo Essay Competition was initiated in the year 2004, as part of activities to celebrate the Birthday of the Presiding Bishop of TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo (MFR) and more importantly to contribute to the development of the Educational Sector.
Topic: “Overcoming the Nigerian Security Challenges: A Panacea for National growth and Development”
First Prize: N100,000 + laptop; winner’s school gets 3 sets of PC and a printer.
Second Prize: N75, 000; winner’s school gets 2 sets of PC and a printer.
Third Prize: N50, 000; winner’s school gets a set of PC. 
Entry Requirements

  • Maximum of 2000 words
  • Name of student, class, email, contact phone number and his/her passport photograph
  • Name of school and detail postal address
  • Name of principal and phone number
  • Essay should be clearly written (legibility is important if you are handwriting your entry).

Deadline: Submissions of entries open April 1, and close on May 31, 2013.
