The University of Western Australia invites applicators for the Sir Eric Smart Masters Scholarship in Agricultural Research for 2018/2019 academic year.
Sir Eric Smart bequeathed funds to The University of Western Australia (the University) to provide scholarships to assist and encourage a high-achieving student to undertake a masters degree at the University with a dissertation relating to agricultural productivity in grain crops in the Perth to Geraldton coastal region. Sir Eric Smart was a pioneer cereal producer in light land around Mingenew and, at one point, was considered the worlds largest individual wheat grower.

Value: $5,000
- may only be suspended after the first academic census date following the commencement of the scholarship; and
may be suspended for up to two semesters during the tenure of the scholarship subject to approval by the Coursework Scholarships Committee
Eligibility
To be eligible to apply for a scholarship, an applicant must—
- have completed—
the Bachelor of Science with a major in
- Agricultural Science; or
- the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) with a major in Agricultural Science;
- have applied for admission in to, or be eligible to enrol in, a master’s degree by coursework and dissertation offered by the Faculty of Science; and
demonstrate an interest in research related to agricultural productivity in grain crops with an emphasis on light soil types in Western Australia.
To be eligible to take up a scholarship, an awardee must be—
- enrolled—
- full-time unless the selection body is satisfied that there are exceptional circumstances1 which preclude full-time enrolment;
- in a master’s degree by coursework and dissertation offered by the Faculty of Science; and
- in the research development and/or research project units for the applicable course; and
- undertaking research related to agricultural productivity in grain crops with an emphasis on light soil types in Western Australia.

- Applications are called for by Coursework Scholarships and Prizes and must be submitted by the advertised closing date.
- Applicants must include—
- a research proposal abstract (max 2500 words) which must address the eligibility requirement 8(c) and that covers—
- the hypothesis;
- background;
- aims and objectives; and
- significance and outcomes; and a curriculum vitae.
