The Government of Mexico is inviting applications for the Mexican Government’s Merit Awards for International Students for the 2020/2021 academic session.
Based on the Law for International Cooperation, and with the purpose of maintaining the position of Mexico as an actor with global responsibility, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), calls for foreigners interested in conducting studies in Mexico.
This call is open to citizens of more than 180 countries within the framework of various bilateral conventions, multilateral programs, and special agreements. More than 100 Mexican Higher Education Institutions participate, all of them offering academic programs registered in the National Program of Quality Graduate Degrees (PNPC) of the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT).
Worth of Award
The worth of award are as follows;
- For scholarships for undergraduate mobility; specializations; Master’s Degree or Masters-level research;
- a monthly stipend of 4 (four) times the monthly value of the Unit of Measure and Actualization (UMA); currently, it equals $10,274.00 Mexican pesos.
- The Unit of Measure and Actualization (UMA) is subject to changes established by Law.
- For Doctoral programs and research stays, Postdoctoral fellowships and Medical specialties and subspecialties;
- a monthly stipend of 5 (five) times the value of the Unit of Measure and Actualization (UMA); currently, it equals $12,842.50 Mexican pesos.
- The Unit of Measure and Actualization (UMA) is subject to changes established by Law.
Eligibility
Requirements for all applicants:
- Scholarships are open to International students and must possess:
- Bachelors, Master’s or Ph.D. degree, as required by the program for which the scholarship is requested.
- Minimum grade point average of eight (8.0) on a scale of 0 to 10, or the equivalent, for the last academic degree, received.
- Be accepted to or currently enrolled in a program at one of the participating Mexican institutions.
How to Apply
- Application form (download), dully completed and including a digital photograph.
- Statement of purpose indicating the reasons for which the applicant is interested in studying or conducting research in Mexico. (Maximum of 2 pages, written in Arial font size 12, with single spacing).
- Curriculum vitae. (Maximum of 3 pages, written in Arial font size 12, with single spacing).
- Letter of Commitment (download) from the applicant to return to his/her home country or country of residence. It must be completed and signed.
- Applications must be submitted online through the Academic Cooperation Management System (SIGCA) (https://sigca.sre.gob.mx), during the duration of the Call.
