University of Sao Paulo in Ribeirao Preto -Sao Paulo- Brazil is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology of cancer as part of a thematic project (process number 2014/20341-0) at the Medical School of Ribeirao Preto. This is funded by Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Sao Paulo-FAPESP.
Fellowship is available for pursuing the postdoctoral program. The Project “Interactions between emerging therapeutic targets and developmental pathways associated with tumorigenesis: emphasis on paediatric malignancies”
Principal Investigator: Dr. Luiz Gonzaga Tone, M.D.
Supervisor: Dr. Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, M.D.
The biology of paediatric cancers is intrinsically associated with dysregulation of signalling pathways that control normal embryonic development. Among these pathways are WNT, SHH and Notch, and TGF, which also play an important role in carcinogenesis and are involved in tumour chemo-and radio-resistance. The study of these pathways in the context of the biology of paediatric tumours may constitute a new field for the identification of target genes and understanding of the long-term effects caused by the different treatment modalities of infant tumours. Thus, this project aims to identify co-expression networks associated with the transcriptional modules of the above-mentioned pathways in different paediatric tumours (medulloblastoma, ependymoma and adrenal carcinoma).
Worth of Award
The selected candidate will receive an FAPESP’s Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$6.819,30 monthly for two years, with the option to extend, and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
Applicants should have a recent PhD degree in science biology or molecular or cell biology, or genetics and experience in molecular and cell biology and animal models of cancer. We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, and creative team player with the ability to develop and perform experiments independently. Previous experience with studies in Medulloblastoma is preferred.
