The University of Oxford is now accepting applications for various scholarships open to African students for the 2018-2019 academic session. This year, many of the scholarships open to Africans are fully-funded, covering tuition fees, and living expenses.

Some scholarships are specifically for African students who apply to the MSc African Studies and other development related courses in the University. You must submit your application by the relevant January deadline to be considered for the scholarships.

Fully Funded Oxford University Dulverton Scholarships for Sub-Saharan Africa, 2018

There are up to two full scholarships for applicants who are applying to full-time masters or DPhil courses in any subject.

Oxford-Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Graduate Scholarships, 2018

The scholarships are available to applicants who are applying to full-time master’s and DPhil courses, except the Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Fully Funded Oxford Wolfson-Marriott Graduate Scholarships in UK, 2018

Eight full scholarships are available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in the EEA or Switzerland and who are applying to any full- or part-time DPhil courses in the Department of Biochemistry, the Department of International Development, the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics, the Mathematical Institute, the Department of Psychiatry (with a preference for a project with an experimental or therapeutic focus within adult mental health), and the Interdisciplinary Bioscience BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership.

Fully Funded Oxford-Allan and Nesta Ferguson African Graduate Scholarship, 2018

One full scholarship is available for applicants who are ordinarily resident in Africa and who are applying to the full-time MSc Environmental Change and Management. The scholarship is only tenable at Linacre College.

Two full scholarships are available for applicants who are applying to one of the following full-time courses: MPhil Development Studies, MSc Economics for Development; MSc Global Governance and Diplomacy; MSc Migration Studies; and MSc Refugee and Forced Migration Studies.

Fully-funded Oxford-Linacre African Graduate Scholarship, 2018

The scholarship is for residents of sub-Saharan Africa. It is jointly funded by the University, Linacre College and the Rhodes Trust. The scholarship is only tenable at Linacre College.

These are postgraduate scholarships in the Humanities for full and part-time DPhil courses. The scholarship is for three disciplines that align closely with the Foundation’s interests: history, literature, and languages.

Fully Funded Oxford Standard Bank Derek Cooper Africa Scholarship, 2018

The scholarship is available to applicants who are ordinarily resident in one of the following countries: Angola, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe. Preference will be given to nationals of Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa and South Sudan.

Fully Funded Oxford Duke of Cambridge Scholarship in Public Policy, 2018

The scholarship is only tenable at University College which has a claim to be Oxford’s oldest College.

Oxford Pershing Square Scholar Programme for African Entrepreneurs, 2018

Every year, the Pershing Square Foundation awards up to six full scholarships to support outstanding students on the 1+1 MBA, covering both the Master’s degree and the MBA year.

  •  If you have submitted your MSc application, but need more time for the 1+1 MBA, the final deadline is March 16, 2018.
  • Please note that most partnering Masters close their applications in January 2018.

Fully Funded Eni Scholarships for Students from Nigeria, Ghana and Angola, Congo, and Mozambique 2018

The scholarships are open to applicants who are ordinarily resident in Angola, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, and the Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville). Preference will be given to applicants whose first degree is from an African university.

ORISHA Master’s Scholarship

The African Studies Committee invites applications for the ORISHA Studentship for MSc in African Studies from persons who will be registered as students for the MSc in African Studies from October 2018. The scholarship will fully cover fees and maintenance.

Mica & Ahmet Ertegun International Scholarship at Oxford

Awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course. If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.

Reach Oxford Undergraduate Scholarship for Developing Countries

The scholarships are only open to new students who will be starting an undergraduate course at the University in October 2018. The scholarship covers University fees and college fees, a grant for living expenses and one return air fare per year.

2018 Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme For Developing Countries

The scholarships are open to students from transitional and emerging economies throughout Africa, Asia and South America to pursue fully funded graduate studies programme at the University.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme

Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course. The scholarship is jointly funded by the University and the UK Department for International Development.

Fully-funded Oxford-Pershing Square Master’s/MBA Scholarship

The international scholarship is open to citizens of all nationalities for a combined MBA and a Master’s degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences

Deadline: There are two applications required with different deadlines.

Master’s: Except you’re already studying at Oxford, you must apply for the partnering master’s programme by the relevant January deadline ( January 8, 2018 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations and Computer Science; January 19, 2018 for all other subjects).

MBA: You must apply by one of these deadlines to the MBA programme: January 5, 2018; March 16, 2018; or May 11, 2018. We strongly advise you to apply by the January deadline or March 16, at the latest.

Fully-funded 2018 Oppenheimer Scholarships at University of Oxford

Scholarships are available for applicants to full or part-time master’s and DPhil courses, who have previously studied at a South African university. 

It awards Tuition fees and a grant for living costs at University of Oxford, UK. It does this by supporting academic exchanges between Oxford and South Africa, and assisting students ordinarily resident in South Africa wishing to pursue graduate study at Oxford.

British Chevening Scholarship for Africans

It is open to applicants from Nigeria, Ethiopia, Botswana, Uganda, South Africa. Other Africans should check back as the list is constantly being updated.

Deadline: November 2014. Some countries’ deadlines may be later. November 7, 2017. They advise you apply well in advance of the deadline because it always gets busy closer to the deadline. Candidates selected for interviews will be interviews in January/February 2018. Please check details here.

Clarendon Scholarship at University of Oxford

The prestigious Clarendon Scholarship for graduate students at the University of Oxford, UK, for 2018–2019 session is now open. All applicants for graduate study at the University are eligible. Clarendon scholars come from all continents in the world: from the USA to Australia, Venezuela to Vietnam and from Norway to Nigeria! Over 100 scholarships are awarded each year.

Rhodes Scholarships at University of Oxford

Rhodes Scholarships are usually open to students from Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica & the Commonwealth Caribbean, Kenya, New Zealand, Pakistan, Southern Africa (including South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia and Swaziland), United States, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. It covers tuition fees, living expenses and return flight to student’s home country on completion of study.
